Call for publications concerning taxonomy in South Asia

BioNET-SACNET invites authors to submit articles, papers, publications and other taxonomy related databases from Taxonomists, Para-Taxonomists, Researchers, Academia, Government Officials, NGO/CBOs and Civil Society of the South Asia region, for hosting on the SACNET website. Authorship and copyright will be duly acknowledged.

BioNET-ANDINONET supports invasive alien species capacity building
Work has started on several activities related to I3N (IABIN Invasives Information Network) tools and their use.  Training workshops on I3N tools and on the importance of creating standardized invasive alien species data and metadata will be offered in three countries: Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.  BioNET-ANDINONET are collaborating to organize the latter workshop in work being led by ANDINONET associate Marco Gaiani, who is also developing multi-language written and electronic materials to support the use and development of I3N use and tools.  In addition, an analysis of capacity building needs of current and potential I3N participants and a plan for I3N capacity building for the next 4 years is being undertaken.  Contact the I3N Coordinator, Andrea Grosse: agrosse@usgs.gov | I3N website.

The 60th UN General Assembly, CBD and Science and technology for development

Item 52 (h) is on the Convention on Biological Diversity, for which document A/60/171 has been prepared, including a report by the Convention's secretariat on ongoing work regarding the Convention, including its Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.  Item 54 (b) is on "Science and technology for development", for which document A/60/184 has been prepared, summarising work carried out by entities of the United Nations system in the area of biotechnology.  Source: FAO-BiotechNews.
