Overview

BioNET-INTERNATIONAL is an association of institutions with expertise in taxonomy. It is comprised of a series of sub-regional networks or LOOPs (Locally Organised and Operated Partnerships), formed as Technical Cooperation Networks (TCNs). These LOOPs are linked through a Technical Secretariat (TECSEC) based in UK.

At the local level, the chief means of communication is through an elected institute, the Network Coordinating Institute (NECI). The NECI will communicate with the National Communicating Institutes (NACIs) and, through them, with the National Institutes (NIs).

On a global level, the NECIs of all LOOPs and the members of the consortium of major world taxonomic institutions (BIOCON) are linked through the Technical Secretariat (TECSEC).
